A Wonderful College Experience

I first became intimately involved with the local churches in college. I came to college with the desire to know God more and the intention to find some companions with whom I could pursue this goal. Through a friend in the local church, I was introduced to the Christian brothers and sisters in the church and began attending the church meetings. From the very beginning, they showed their love and care for me. This touched me very much because I was terribly homesick, coming from the Midwest to attend college in California. Some of the younger students were in the same classes as I was, so we studied together and had some recreation time together. The older students among them were like my big brothers and sisters, tutoring me in my studies when I needed it and offering some helpful advice about college. One of the students and I started reading a chapter of the New Testament together ever night, starting from Matthew 1, and by the end of the term we were nearly done with the Gospels. I was very happy as I was never faithful in Bible-reading on my own.

There was a family in the local church there that also helped me very much, not only during my first tough year but throughout all my five years of college. They warmly welcomed me into their home every Friday night for dinner and a time of fellowship afterwards. I very much appreciated their care for me and will be eternally grateful to them for helping me to understand the truths in the Bible more and how to experience Christ in my daily life.

The education I received while at U. C. Berkeley pales by far in comparison to the benefits I received from meeting with the brothers and sisters in the church there. I made some lifelong relationships in the Lord with the brothers and sisters there, and I love the Lord and the Bible more. Meeting with the local church has made my college years so significant and memorable, and has laid a good foundation for me to continue in my Christian life.

A Richer Understanding of the Bible and A Fuller Experience of God

I have received so much benefit from Witness Lee's ministry. In my youth, I attended many of the meetings in which he spoke, and in later years I read some of his books. Both his spoken messages and written words have conveyed the riches of Christ to me. I never knew, before this, that God could be so easily experienced in my day-to-day situations and that He even uses my environment to cause me to turn to Him more and more. I am particularly appreciative of the Life-Study messages of Witness Lee in which book-by-book and chapter-by-chapter, the entire Bible is expounded. Through those messages I have been helped to understand the Bible and the central thought of God in the Bible. Reading the word of God is so nourishing to me, but with the added benefit of understanding what I'm reading, I feel I am knowing God more and more. In addition to making the Bible clear, the ministry of Witness Lee is full of practical illustrations of how to experience the Lord based upon the particular passage of Scripture I'm reading. I am so thankful for the Life-Studies because they have given me a richer understanding of the Bible and have brought me into a closer relationship with the Lord.
